Michael Martin may have resigned in disgrace, but sadly, (probably) to be ennobled and inserted into the House of Lords. So, in fact, he is going to be promoted to a more powerful position within our legislature.
(I know you were making a point about Dennis Hastert and it still stands - it's just that we're equally bad.)
